ABOUT 3D computer graphics software

3D computer graphics software refers to programs used to create 3D computer-generated imagery. This article covers only some of the software used.

Uses

3D modelers are used in a wide variety of industries. The medical industry uses them to create detailed models of organs. The movie industry uses them to create and manipulate characters and objects for animated and real-life motion pictures. The video game industry uses them to create assets for video games. The science sector uses them to create highly detailed models of chemical compounds. The architecture industry uses them to create models of proposed buildings and landscapes. The engineering community uses them to design new devices, vehicles and structures as well as a host of other uses. There are typically many stages in the "pipeline" that studios and manufacturers use to create 3D objects for film, games, and production of hard goods and structures.

Nigerian Animation: Mark of Uru

With a budget of less than $5,000 dollars a small production studio in Nigeria, TransTales Entertainment has recently gained international attention for their animation titles. The titles produced by Segun Williams and Obinna Onwuekwe claimed the United Nations World Summit Award for the use of technology to promote African culture.

Staying glued to his I-Mac Apple computer with his hands fidgeting with the mouse, the artist talked on in his studio called Stanleesworld. One moment he seems to be meditating with the characters he is creating and the next, he is laughing and mimicking some his animated beings.
Stanley Ohikhuare reveals that he is not only a trained artist, but was born with the talent.

Life Changing Blender Training in Nigeria

Apart from the fact that Blender is extremely good software, I also view it as a very strong enabling technology: Blender is able to provide people – who would normally not be able to afford 3D training – the opportunity to start a career in 3D.
Most of Africa falls in the above category. Therefore, when I was recently invited as a Blender Foundation Certified Trainer to present a 7-day introductory Blender workshop in Nigeria, I decided to go despite rumours about the country – and was pleasantly surprised by what I experienced there at ground level…
Nigeria is a tropical country, so it was very hot – even though it was only Spring. Fortunately, I presented the workshop at Media Village in Jos, which is on the Nigerian plateau – and therefore one of the cooler spots.
As a South African “Westerner”, I experienced the conditions on the ground as quite challenging, but it was very obvious that they were very used to it and have learnt to live with it. Some of the hurdles we had to overcome were:

From Cape Town to Lagos, Animation Blossoms

Lagos — REVOLUTION Media, conveners of the annual ground breaking Lagos Comics and Cartoons Carnival, have announced their plans in collaboration with Image Animation Studios - a Cape Town, South Africa based powerhouse for multimedia communications to present a three-day workshop in 3D communication.
The workshop is being supported by the culture activist organisation - Committee for Relevant Art (CORA) and stage design and lighting maestros' Total Consult Ltd.

EXPO HALL. EKO HOTEL & SUITES... Red Carpet Design for Passage

Sorry for not been up-to-date on my tutorials, i was busy... I was contacted by Wildcard Events & Media Ltd to prepare a red carpet scene for the EKO HOTEL & SUITE passage. They gave me the scenario of what they had to plan for work with which was in 2D form. It was an interesting project, because I'll have to model and texture complex objects. I noticed i problems with lightening scenes. So I went back to my archives to find tutorial on lightening. Believe me it only took me 6hrs 10mins to perfect the job. See pics below..

MODELING: 1hr
TEXTURING: 1Hour
LIGHTENING: 4HRS
RENDERING: 10mins

Dont forget to call me for 3D plan for your events. Believe its the next line of presentation.. 08035507465

Ok..I think..its really cool creating plans for the Red Carpet plans for two straight events. Well i just got a call to create a plan for the Exquisite Magazine Party against cancer. Will be checking out the location tomorrow and work with their design.. Will update my blog as soon as the event holds....

3D plan of Red Carpet design for WED Magazine launch

Its was an interesting project i worked on for Wildcard Events and Media ltd on their Red Carpet plan for the WED Magazine launch. It took 1hour to Model, but texturing took 2hrs...you know i had to make sure i use the proper texture, most of which were taken with my blackberry camera. Lightening the scene took most of my time. What was needed was a static shots of angles that gives a clear description of the plan.

take a look below

if you need  3D plan for your events and job, corporate, multimedia presentation, dont hesitate to call on me...my blog is just around the corner.

'Cheap Facial Motion Capture Video Tutorial'

Software Used:

After Effects, Maya and MatchMover

The purpose of this tutorial is to show that even a small studio can afford to use facial motion capture. As an animator in the computer games industry I have, on numerous occasions, been approached by the creative producer regarding the possibility of producing minutes upon minutes of lip-sync animation. Sadly the time frame has always been too tight to deliver a quality that I can personally be proud of. The technique presented in this tutorial is an attempt to bridge the gap between large quantities of lip-syncing and a tight time budget.
You can download an example video from this URL to get started on your own project: http://www.ericthelander.com/tutorial/cheapFacialMotionCapture.zip
This tutorial requires knowledge of character rigging, skin binding, and skin painting in Maya.

How to Orient the Local Rotation Axis (LRA) of a Joint'

Software Used:

Maya

If you’re new to what a local rotation axis is, let’s start with a scenario you may have already seen and didn’t know how to fix.
Let’s say I’m creating a new rig for a character and working on the arm specifically. I click out a series of joints for the arm, but they aren’t quite in the right place for my mesh so I have to move them to get them in the position of the arm. (Unless you built your arms straight out along the grid, you usually have to move them some. Like if you built them in the front view, you’ll likely have to move them to line them up with the arm in the side view. And for the sake of this tutorial, let’s assume I’m really bad at placing joints so it’s easier to see the point I’m trying to demonstrate.)

Creating Realistic Glass Using 3 Different Materials'

Software Used: Maya & Mental Ray

For this demo we will utilize Maya's Blinn material, Ramp texture, and Sampler Info utility. We will also use Mental Ray's Dielectric Material and new Mia_material. The user of this tutorial should note that I have also used Mental Ray as my renderer, with Final Gathering, Global Illumination, Caustics, and Image Based lighting used for optimal realism.

Creating Glass with a Blinn:

Our first step is to create the geometry for the glasses. Whilst simple, we need to make sure that the revolved surface (constructed here using a NURBS) is thicker at the base (just like a real pint glass).

Next, I duplicate out a few of these, and set up the scene. My render settings are listed here as well

Creating Next-Gen Environment Textures using Total Textures

Creating Next-Gen EnviroCreating Next-Gen Environment Textures using Total Textures'
nment Textures using Total Textures

For this tutorial, I used the 3DTotal Texture DVDs, a large library of diverse textures that we here at AMC Studio use regularly. At the end you will find a list of all the specific 3D Total Textures I have used for each texture that I have created. Some of the images included in this tutorial also mention which textures were used.
Usually, it is preferable that one artist does the entire process of modelling and texturing, as usually these processes are interlinked, so optimising the geometry will make changes to the texturing, and vice-versa. This is why I will also mention some of the means by which the geometry and UV have to be optimised to keep the textures needed to a minimum, whilst also adding extra details and personality to the asset.
The majority of game assets start their life as a concept art and some reference images that will help to better define the character of the building. For this tutorial I used the following concept art and reference photos

(Fig.01 – 02). The subject of the concept is a desert building, inspired by the settlements on Tatooine and typical real-life Tunisian buildings. I also included some extra sci-fi details to make it more interesting. The desert environment will influence the chromatic variation of the textures as well as their detail, as far as weather influence on materials goes. Being a multi-purposed building, details vary; there is a generator in the tower and the back side of the building can be used as a market stall to sell different things.
